Job searching can feel like navigating a maze. And in today’s market it feels a little bit like the Harry Potter maze that’s always changing! That’s why I called in the expert Anna Belyaeva, CEO and Founder of The Career Diet. She shared a few tips on how to be the star candidate employers are after! Anna has been on every side of the job hunt (job seeker, recruiter and now career coach) so she spilled some awesome tips on job hunting and networking.
Anna shared tidbits on what is important for building an active LinkedIn and the magic of networking. Hint: building your network doesn’t mean you have to be posting on LinkedIn. (although we both agree that’s a good idea) Rather, she touches on who you want in your network, when to ask for peoples time, and how to get your network to advocate for you.
Anna also shared some really great insight into why even when you do everything right you still might not land the job and how at the end of the day the recruiter really does want you to be the star candidate when you sit across from them in that interview chair. Hiring is expensive for companies and recruiters are often under the gun to put up a candidate. (so make it easy for them to brag on you!)
Anna shared a golden homework assignment: spend 30 minutes this week reconnecting with old managers, coworkers, or friends.
