Sales. It’s a word that most of us cringe when hearing and often times try to avoid, either as the one selling or the one buying! Stories on the other hand will make us all lean in. So how do we craft a story that sells in a world of short attention spans? I was so glad that Maury agreed to sit down for coffee and share some tips with us about how to draft a concise and engaging story.
Maury agreed, attention spans are shrinking. He shared that most humans officially have an attention span that’s shorter than a goldfish! It takes a lot of work to “stop the scroll” or tell a story in the world of social media. He cautioned us to listen to our audience often and to not be afraid of some silence. His EPIC storytelling format is perfect to help us stay concise and engaging by tapping into empathy and problem solving.
You know I love a good cheat sheet and Maury shared a few tools we can use to leverage AI while we perfect our stories. Script-timer will give you an idea of how long it will take you to say the words you write, so if you think you’ve got a great written pitch try plugging it in there first! He reminded us that stories don’t have to be long and they don’t have to be complicated. Two to three sentences can do the trick! If you struggle with talking about yourself or your business this episode was packed full of tricks for overcoming that common block we all experience. Be sure to grab Maury’s resources below!
