#177 | How To Improve Your Digital First Impression

People are googling you whether you realize it or not. When I first googled myself I cringed at the outdated information but leaned into the fact that I needed to take control of what my digital first impression was. Making a good first impression used to mean combing your hair and tucking in your shirt but in today’s digital first world most people are making judgments based on what they find online. In this episode, I opened up my digital toolbox to share some fun, easy-to-implement tips to help you. Here are three key takeaways that you can use right away to boost your online presence:

1. Clean Up Your Social Media: Think of it as spring cleaning, but for your digital life. Use tools like TweetDelete and Facebook’s Privacy Checkup to give your profiles a good scrub. Those posts from way back when? College days? They might not reflect who you are today and could even affect job opportunities. Keep your profiles fresh and relevant.
2. Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile: LinkedIn is usually the first stop for potential employers or business partners. Make sure your profile stands out. Start with a great profile picture, a catchy headline, and a detailed ‘About’ section. And if you need a little help, check out helpmylinkedin.com for a quick crash course.
3. Be Google-Savvy: Google is your friend—and sometimes your foe. About 72% of people will look you up online before meeting you. Make sure what they find is an accurate representation of how amazing you are! Google your name and see what comes up. If it’s outdated or irrelevant, take steps to update and organize your online info. (I’d say your best bet would be updating your LinkedIn profile first!)
