Jan Rutherford, former Green Beret and leadership expert, joined us to talk leadership and resilience. He shared some thought-provoking questions to ask ourselves and practices we can implement in our lives today to make sure we’re developing the resilience we need to lead teams that are self-reliant and can weather any storm.
If you’re a leader trying to shift a culture or join a new team, this conversation is for you! Jan shared tips for creating an environment where you get the best behaviors from everybody. Making sure everyone understands the expectations you have for them, knows where they stand, and knows that there are consequences for performance. Don’t forget consequences aren’t always negative, rewards and recognition go a long way.
He shared the importance of staying squared away as a leader both mentally and physically. One of the best ways to do so is having passion, curiosity, and always striving for continuous improvement. As leaders we all think we’re self-aware, but honestly, most of us are just average. So, ask for feedback and advice from others, and create those relationships where people feel comfortable giving you that constructive criticism. Be sure to watch the whole conversation for more tips and strategies for improving your resilience. (& your teams!)
