There’s no denying the landscape of professionalism has shifted. We’re navigating emojis in emails, work from home attire and what is actually acceptable to post online? Lorraine Lee, a LinkedIn Learning Instructor and consultant spends all day every day helping teams show up well online and in person.
We talked about how to let your boss take the lead on what’s appropriate communication and how to draft your emails. Lorraine warned us that you can always get “more casual” but you can rarely go back and make a more professional impression. She emphasized the importance of building your personal brand on LinkedIn (which you know I’m all about!) and how to leverage a few trusty apps to clean up your presence online.
The Coffee With Kim crew all piped in when we started talking about soft skills that are getting lost in the workplace and how we can help revive them. Relationship building, showing up well prepared and dressed well and networking with powerhouse colleagues all got brought into the conversation. Navigating today’s work world in a professional way is more of a cheat code than you may think. Our work has become less structured and at times our professionalism slips but don’t forget the value of the little things that will make you stand out both online and in person!
