Cheers to the first solo show of the year! We usually have guests come share their wisdom but sometimes you don’t want a friend over to the house. You want the freedom to be a little ‘slouchy’, comfortable and real. This week’s session was just that. I checked in with viewers from Pennsylvania, Missouri, Portugal, India, and beyond. It was a great time! Here’s what we discussed:
Many of us have to-do lists that seem never ending. If you’re anything like me, you may get caught up in the minor works and the tasks that actually move the needle forward are ignored.
If so, I highly recommend the ‘Urgent vs. Important’ method. Separate your to-do list into urgent tasks – updating your Instagram bio, grocery shopping, etc. – and important tasks – sending proposals, launching a newsletter, etc. Complete your ‘important’ tasks first to get further ahead to accomplishing your goals. It’s a gamechanger for productivity. Thank me later!
Speaking of newsletters, I did it. I launched my LinkedIn newsletter, What Works, in January and we’re already at 10,000 subscribers! I have to say a huge thank you for the accountability, support, and resources you all shared with me to help take this from an idea to fruition!
I publish the newsletters every Tuesday, sharing shortcuts, business hacks and new learnings to make life easier.
Shameless plug! If you haven’t done so already, subscribe and tell a friend to join the What Works. Newsletter family to get all this and more.
I’m all about connecting with community so when I found the Give and Get activity on Instagram, I knew I wanted to implement it here. You simply give 5 minutes helping others and get 5 minutes of help in return. Be sure to request small asks like making an introduction, reading a bio or giving feedback on a resume.
If you’re watching the replay, don’t worry, Give Gets never expire! Follow up with those you can help and that can help you.
Here’s what I gave:
A link to bypass the waiting list for a genius new email optimizing system I’ve been using, Superhuman. Superhuman came highly recommended from some of the smartest people in my life so I had to try. I’m officially obsessed.
The Mmhmm app. I’ve shared this app before, I brought it back because that’s how much I believe in it. Whether you’re tired of sitting through boring Zoom presentations or tired of making them you need Mmhmm. It levels up your slideshows with amazing video, graphic, and copilot features you never knew you needed! (Full disclosure: the program currently only works on Macs.)
Send me a message & I’ll be happy to share the links!
P.S. These referrals are not paid, but maybe they should be *wink*
Here’s what I asked for:
Good writing tips. Since starting What Works I’ve felt a little middle school-ish because of the pressure for it to be great. – Not to mention the little cursor flashing at me is quite intimidating. – I want to share cool, funny, interesting things people actually want to read. I’ve already read Seth Godin’s ‘The Practice’ & am participating David Perell’s ’50-Days of writing’. Please share other suggestions.
Rebranding suggestions. I’m Joanna Gainesing my personal brand I would appreciate a second opinion on my color palette. I want my colors to say, ‘I’m smart, talented, capable but also fun!’ Please message me which one you like best.
Recently, I had a viewer ask what LinkedIn Learning was and realized I’ve always just assumed everyone was aware of it. LinkedIn Learning is a separate LinkedIn platform that hosts courses from experts around the world. Myself and many of our past guests including Gemma Leigh Roberts, Erin Shrimpton, Authentic Alex, Jess Ekstrom have courses available.
*Message me for a code for 3 months free of LinkedIn Learning!
Did you know about linked in learning? Do you use it regularly? If so, why? Lastly, what other teaching platforms do you use?
Homework: Antonio Neeve’s told us a few weeks ago to go on a walk without headphones and take in our environment. I’ve implemented this once a week and it’s been powerful. Try it for yourself this week!
No formal Coffee With Kim but I want YOU to hop on a zoom call, facetime or even go LIVE on your own platforms! I’ll be off the grid (best I can!) next week but I would love to challenge you to continue our coffee meetings in your own way. Check out our upcoming lineup here , the next few months are packed with some major names!
