Communication at work stinks when we’re feeling overwhelmed. Keeping our expectations, limits & talent clear helps everyone on a team achieve more. Knowing what to expect, how far you can push & the lengths someone is willing to go cuts through mixed signals and feelings of silent suffering.
In this conversation Jean Marie shared the three levels of listening, the first being when we listen to the voices in our own head and how that voice can often disrupt the conversation. Recognizing when our own internal conversation is muddying the communication channel or when the person we’re communicating with is having an internal conversation making them unable to focus. How to pause, ask questions and put that voice to the side to listen more effectively.
She also shared some great insight into how to handle a heated conversation at work if you’re the supervisor and ways to help your team work through tough discussions without embarrassing or belittling anyone. One of the best tips she shared is using silence and questions to dig deeper and listen for what is not being said. Janine shared some great resources with us and can’t wait to use her 10 questions for uncovering hidden talent on a team.
