#100 | Virtual Presentations 101 With Lorraine Lee

As we round out 2022 I think it’s safe to say remote work isn’t going anywhere. That means more Zoom meetings, virtual presentations, and making good digital impressions. So, this week I brought Lorraine Lee, Head of Editorial at Prezi and virtual presentation expert, to Coffee With Kim. Lorraine taught us how to take our virtual presentations from flat to fab with tips for showing up on camera and software to liven up our powerpoints.

Top 3 Takeaways From The Conversation:

• Keeping Virtual Audiences Engaged: Let’s be honest, as soon as the presenter says “I’m going to share my screen” we all start to tune out. We open our email, check the slack notification or even browse Tik Tok (true story, I was on a call where someone forgot to mute themselves while watching Tik Tok just last week!) Lorraine had a few suggestions to combat this like creating interactive polls and making sure your presentation has two movements per minute.

• How To Be A Great Attendee: I love that Lorraine pointed out that we can make a huge difference in our teams dynamics just by how we show up to other virtual presentations. As an attendee we do have a responsibility to come prepared & engaged. Be sure to review the agenda thoroughly & come with questions in mind. Even if you already know the answer, throw your colleague a bone by being the first to speak up when they get to the “any questions?” section of their presentation.

• Async Communication: Some of us think well in big groups. The more ideas that come up, the more ideas we come up with! Others, maybe a little more introverted, need time to mull things over. As an extrovert I can even admit that there are times during the meeting that I draw a complete blank but later on during a run I think “oh my gosh what about this?!”. Lorraine suggests sending pre-recorded videos ahead of time so that people can think up some questions or ideas that they can chime in with during her presentation. I love the idea of this being a video vs an email because it makes things more engaging & personal. She also makes sure to include that this doesn’t require an immediate response & that they can discuss this during the upcoming meeting.
