Advocating for yourself in the workplace is a skill that takes some practice. As a former Fortune 500 Senior Director, Tiffany Uman achieved 7 promotions in under 10 years and she sat down with the Coffee With Kim crew to spill a few secrets with us live! One of my favorite questions from Tiffany, “If you removed yourself from the project or situation how would it have worked?” A powerful question for anyone at the workplace but especially powerful as we head into end of year reviews!
One of the biggest mistakes Tiffany sees is assuming everyone knows what work you’re doing and how well you’re doing it. Good news? If you’re mediocre at your job, no one knows. Bad news? If you’re REALLY good at your job, chances are no one knows. She gave us some scripts for highlighting our wins in our next performance review and challenged us to take some time this week to really pick out five wins that we’ve achieved this year and find a way to talk about them comfortably.
Tiffany shared some great ways to network with people within your organization that you may not have direct contact to and even gave us a script to talk with our boss about getting some more face time with our bosses boss (which can be an awkward conversation if you’re not prepared for it!)
