If creating video content makes you want to run and hide, you’re not alone! Many of us shy away from hitting ‘record’ whether it’s logistically because we don’t know where to record or maybe we hate looking at ourselves on camera, but friends I’m here to tell you it’s the way to stand out on LinkedIn. Here’s why you should be embracing video content and how to go about it.
Why video? Well, a jaw-dropping 99% of LinkedIn users are still lurking in the shadows, not posting yet. With the platform’s billion-strong user base, this means you’ve got a golden opportunity to shine without a lot of competition! Video garners five times more engagement than text posts, and it’s your chance to showcase your thoughts without anyone wondering if AI was involved!
My biggest tips for getting started. Keep it simple! Start strong, make your content engaging in the first three seconds, and keep it concise—ideally under a minute. Think of it like catching up with a friend; bring the energy and share something they’re itching to know. Use vertical format on your phone, and use LinkedIn’s built in closed captioning option! And remember if your first video only gets three likes, keep calm! The real power lies in consistency.
Don’t focus on perfecting every video—just getting on the field is a win. With platforms prioritising video and authentic content, your unique voice is your best asset for career advancement or becoming that go-to expert. So next time you question whether to hit ‘post,’ remember, it’s about progress, not perfection. Set up, smile, and capture what makes you, you!
