3 seconds. That’s how long you have to grab attention on your LinkedIn profile. In this mini-workshop, I’m sharing all of my secrets on how to create a dynamic profile, attract valuable connections & come up in keyword searches. Add my techniques to your 2022 LinkedIn strategy and you’re sure to experience growth.
“Optimize” is thrown around a lot when it comes to social media, but what does it actually mean? Simply put, it’s formatting your profile to represent you well. That way, those who don’t know how awesome you are in real life will get a glimpse through your internet presence.
LinkedIn is a great place to start because your profile, and anything you put on the platform, shows up on the first page of results when someone googles you. Don’t believe me? Google yourself to test the theory!
Optimizing is important because on average people spend only 3-5 seconds on your profile!
They’re asking themselves what I call “caveman questions”, like ’Do we have anything in common?’ and ‘Are they real or a robot?’.
Once they decide they can trust you, they’ll spend 1-3 minutes looking at your descriptions, reviewing mutual friends, etc. If not, they’ll ‘no’ you before they get to know you.

Turn visitors into connections by keeping these spots on your LinkedIn profile up to date:
Banner – It represents who you are and what you do. Using a quote, your business logo, something specific about you or where you live are great banner ideas.
Profile picture – Be sure it’s well lit and clear so you’re easily recognizable!
Pronunciation – Have a difficult name like mine? Make it easy for your connections by recording your name for them to hear.
Connections – Connect with coworkers, friends, and family members to boost your legitimacy and grow your audience.
We don’t have the algorithm completely figured out but we do know it favors those who use LinkedIn’s new features! Be sure to update these as well:
Video profile – AKA ‘the Harry Potter feature’, brings your still photo to life like in the movie, allowing you to share a short video about who you are and what you do.
Headline – You can now use more characters than ever before to show how multifaceted you are.
Services – Secretly, this is a great place to promote your side hustles! Are you a banker by day and a photo editor by night? Let your audience know what you can help them with by adding it to the ‘Services’ section.
Talks About – What are your favorite topics to discuss on LinkedIn? Let others know in the ‘Talks About’ section to keep the conversation going.
Open to Work – Looking for a new job? Your next opportunity could come to you if you turn on the ‘Open to Work’ feature.
Activity – Let your audience find what you’re posting, liking, sharing, and commenting on all in one place.
P.S. You don’t need to have LinkedIn Pro to use any of these features!
Can’t leap into all the changes right away? Clean up house by starting with these easy steps.
Put your best profile forward by avoiding these common LinkedIn mistakes.
Set it and Forget it – Update your LinkedIn profile with all the cool, interesting things you’re doing at least once a quarter.
Messy House – Avoid paragraphs in your About section and instead use bullet points, short sentences, and easy-to-read material. Remember people are visiting for just 3-5 seconds!
Not Making Time – Life gets busy. Block time in your calendar to make these updates or else it’ll likely not get done. And DON’T cancel on yourself!
