LinkedIn has become a go-to resource for recruiters, job seekers, business and individuals looking for new opportunities, partnerships and resources.
Translation: It’s more important than ever before to use it correctly so fantastic opportunities can find you!
There is nothing worse than visiting a friend’s LinkedIn profile and thinking… “That’s is what they have listed?! They are SO MUCH more than this!” Your profile should showcase all the wonderful attributes and impressive accomplishments of your career. And I know…it feels weird talking about yourself, I get it, but don’t be afraid to show your stuff on LinkedIn! If you’re having trouble, imagine you are your best friend. How would they describe you and your work? How would they talk about your career when introducing you at a party? Write from that perspective and don’t sell yourself short.
Stuck on where to start? No problem! I created this cheat sheet for you to update your LinkedIn Profile. Download it here. Remember, LinkedIn is a live document, not static. You should be updating it every time you win a reward, get a promotion or volunteer at a new organization.
You should be posting content to LinkedIn. Yes, you. You have something valuable to offer. Your knowledge, skillset and experience is exactly what others are looking for. It’s also how opportunities are going to find you. Nothing can find you if you’re silent.
I love using the analogy of being lost at sea in a boat.
How is the coast guard going to find you if you don’t put out a signal? If you don’t radio for help? They can’t! This is the same thing. You have to put yourself out there in order to connect with people who are looking for you. Start posting content, start engaging with other people’s posts and sharing your experiences, you never know what opportunities will find you!
Once you’ve updated your profile and started posting content it’s time to see what’s working. Shield is a fantastic platform that allows you to view all of your backend analytics for LinkedIn. It has a free trial but trust me, you’re going to love it!
LinkedIn is rolling out a stories feature globally. The same type that you see currently on Instagram and Facebook. Here’s yesterday’s article about it. I’m curious to see what they will look like and how people will use them. I love seeing platforms innovate and I plan on being an early adopter of the Stories feature when it rolls out to the U.S.
While I love our one-on-one Wednesday dates, next week I’m bringing a friend for you to meet (hint hint: she’s awesome) so you’re not going to want to miss out!
Here’s the invite to add to your calendar!
