#102 | How To Start Producing Content On LinkedIn

This week I’m sharing insider secrets on how to start producing content on LinkedIn. Learn when and what to post, and how to grow your following. Figuring Out What To Share: The key is choosing subjects you enjoy and are excited about. Your magic content zone will include topics that fit all three of these criteria:
- You’re naturally good at it
- You like learning about it
- You could talk it about for hours
Create A Realistic Schedule: Whether you want to post 1x a week, 3x a week, or 1x a month you’ll need a realistic content schedule. “Realistic” is the operative word here. Start by blocking off time to brainstorm and create. Calendaring the time block will encourage you to keep that meeting with yourself. (feel free to add an accountability partner to your calendar invite so they keep you on track!)
2 Big Content No No’s: There are two things that almost always make your content perform poorly.
- Focusing on yourself. Before you post, ask, ‘Can someone share this later and look smart?’ For example, if you post about your summer reads and give three things you learned, a viewer can take that info and share it if the topic comes up at dinner. They seem like an expert though all they did was read your post. That’s the goal!
- Overusing hashtags. It confuses the algorithm and your content may not get pushed to followers. Use three hashtags max and let the algorithm help you reach your target audience.

Q: For live interviews do you plan a script or improvise?
A: I’ve seen both methods work, but I like to feel like we’re actually in a coffee shop when the conversation flows naturally around our subject.
Q: What is the best approach to get the first 100+ followers on a new company page?
A: Shamelessly ask friends and family to follow. Make it as easy as possible for them to do so.
Q: Please explain impressions vs engagement.
A: An impression happens when a post is viewed, read, or watched. Engagement means followers have commented, liked, or shared as well.
Q: Is there a magic number for followers?
A: No, but there is a magic number for connections. 500! Get there as soon as possible! It looks great on LinkedIn and no one knows if the number is 501 or 5000.
