Every week on Coffee With Kim we sit down with leaders, experts, and CEOs to copy their homework for everything from investing to delegating to mindset. This week I’ll be letting you in on a few of my favorite resources! Like my trick to never getting bored with reading, and how to keep your inbox spam-free. Also, my favorite podcasts and social media follows, plus my newest obsession – that’s completely free by the way. We don’t gatekeep here, you can get all the links from this and every CWK episode at copymyhomework.com.
With summer comes sunshine, vacation, and lots of reading lists. I use the ‘Carrots vs Cookies’ method when choosing books. So, for every smart book aka “carrot” I read, I follow up with a fun book aka “cookie”. Reading became a chore and an extension of work when I was knees deep in business content. Incorporating the “cookies” reminded me that I get to read and didn’t leave me drained.
Here are a few books I’ll be diving into this summer:
The Cookies –
Author Ruth Ware
The Hunting Party by Lucey Foley
The Carrots:
The Changing World Order by Ray Dalio
After moving to Austin, Texas I got my first library card and the local library has quickly become one of my favorite resources! Did you know libraries also have new releases and audiobooks? Personally, I like to use audiobooks for cookie reads and physical books for carrot reads so I can take notes. You can also use Libby or Overdrive with your library card to get access to even more digital resources.
The best part of it all is that it’s completely free! And as I always love to say, if it’s free it’s for me!
In addition to books, one of my favorite resources for learning is podcasts.
Drive by Dr. Peter Attia has been great for easy-to-consume health information. I love this episode on Training For Longevity, discussing what you can do now to maintain physical and mental health as you age.
This episode of Quitted featuring Elizabeth Gilbert is also a must-listen. The Eat, Pray, Love author dishes why, even though quitting has gotten a bad rap, sometimes in life it is better than holding on to what no longer serves you.
As we slide our way into July it’s important to freshen things up for the second half of the year. A great place to start is by decluttering your inbox. All the newsletters you never read, the shopping ads, and the emails you inadvertently signed up for can now make way for the mail you actually want to read.
Bypass the tedious work of unsubscribing from marketing emails one by one with Unroll.Me.
This site has quickly become one of my favorite resources.
Avoid a cluttered inbox altogether with this cool alternative – Simple Login. Simple Login allows you to share a dummy email with marketers so you never get spammed. How cool!
Jenny Blake visited us last week to teach us how we can better manage our time. I wanted to keep learning from her, so I visited her website and found a wealth of resources! Anytime I can copy someone else’s homework and make their process work for me is a win! I’m especially excited to dive into her Free Time Tool Kit, Align Design Assign, Manager Manual, and Potential to Delegate task manager. Would you believe me if I told you all these resources were FREE? Visit her website to see what you can find to help you create more free time in life and at work.
When it comes to social media I also apply the ‘Cookie vs Carrot method’! I stick to following accounts that will brighten my feed, exercise my mind, and add overall value to my life.
Here are some accounts that will do the same for you:
