If you know me, you know Jason Feifer because I repost his content all the time! Jason is a dear friend to the CWK community, Editor-In-Chief at Entrepreneur Magazine, and author of the new book, ‘Build For Tomorrow’. He joined us for Coffee this week to discuss all things change, adaptation, entrepreneurship, and business!
Whether you’re an entrepreneur or work in corporate you’ll need Jason’s tools to tackle the uncertainty happening in our world. He shared the four phases of change, how to navigate them and help others embrace them as well. Plus, the key to making panic work for you and what entrepreneurs should anticipate in the pending recession.
Though we are friends in real life now, Jason first found me through the earliest version of Coffee with Kim. That is the magic of the interwebs! You never know who you’re reaching with your content. Jason says putting out content is like putting out your own Bat Signal, people see it and then come to you. We agreed that sharing content is intimidating until you do it!
“I was afraid to post content out of fear that people would label me as trying to be an influencer. The opposite happened though, they complimented and thanked me for the info. We think it’s weird and awkward, but people love usefulness more than anything.”
People are listening, reading, and watching what you share even if they’re not acknowledging it. You’ll know this when people bring up your content even if they didn’t directly interact with it. Also, by the opportunities, job offers, awards, and honors that “magically” come to you.
In a nutshell, sharing content is the easiest way to find your tribe.
Here’s a pro tip from Jason to help you stay consistent when sharing content – and with everything else in life – ask ‘What is it for?’ He uses this as a means to remain focused and a filter for devoting resources.
“I asked this question with my podcast. Podcasting is very labor intensive and doesn’t make much money but being consistent teaches me how to do it, making it an opportunity magnet and an IP Factory. Because I have that definition, I understand how much time I should put in and what I should expect to get back.”
Without knowing, the podcast was also a testing ground for Jason’s new book, Build For Tomorrow. He admits this is how many big projects grow – by working things out live.
“It’s impossible to be perfect the first time around, so just put your ideas into the world to get reactions, figure out what people need, and build from there.”
Speaking of putting your ideas into the world, I was curious to know Jason’s method for choosing the content he creates and posts.
“Whenever I encounter something I think could be a lesson for others, I just try it out as a quick post on social media. If people react to it well, I’ll graduate it to a different space like a magazine column or a chapter in a book. This way I’m being efficient with my ideas.”
Jason isn’t the only expert to use this method. He shared Gary Vee uses a similar formula with Twitter! It works because social posts serve as a public record of how people reacted and helps determine if the idea is worth expanding upon or not.
“By studying and adapting to my audience I am able to give them the best version of what they need and want without them asking for it.”
