I haven’t been able to answer as many comments, questions, and DM’s lately as I prep to launch my Career Capital Course (applications close October 8th!), so this week I’ll be sharing my latest tactical tips, must-have resources and most importantly, answering your questions. In our talk I tackled how to get more views on LinkedIn, what I’d do differently if I was starting a business today, and my #1 tip on how to get ahead in our new work normal. Let’s dig in!
If you’re hoping to get more engagement on LinkedIn there’s a few things to keep in mind.
Speaking of LinkedIn profiles, have you turned on Creator Mode yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! It’s a new feature that allows you to grow your reach and influence on the platform, and makes it easier to connect with those who have the same interests as you. Check out this tutorial for help getting started.
If I was starting a business from scratch today I would do two things to get ahead…
The #1 thing to avoid is not being clear on necessities vs nice to haves. For example, when starting my marketing agency, having a phone, a computer, and my brain were necessary. It would have been nice to have an office, a work phone, a cool set up, etc. When you’re able to identify what you absolutely need vs what you don’t you’ll avoid unnecessary expenses, sticky contracts, etc. In my LinkedIn course, Entrepreneurship Foundations, I share more about this plus everything else I wish I knew before starting a business.
We’ve all caught ourselves saying, ‘I’m too busy to [fill in the blank]’, even for things we know are important. – For me it’s learning Spanish! – I’ve learned to say instead, “It’s going to be a priority just not in this season”.
Let’s face it, it’s unrealistic to think we can do and be it all, we only have 24 hrs in a day! Setting certain goals aside for a time where you can be a hundred percent dedicated is better than trying to squeeze it in where it doesn’t fit.
The most important takeaway I have from this pandemic experience is the need for self-evaluations. If you can go into 2022 with a greater self awareness, and a more accurate description of who you are, what you’re good at and what you’ll do for work, you’ll hit the ground running. But don’t depend on your own criticism, ask five people around you to help you identify your superpowers. An outside perspective can sometimes be more clear than our own.
While you’re choosing your five, also take inventory of the relationships that don’t have the best energy. Just like your closet, our relationships sometimes need a spring cleaning. Keep encouraging, accountable, helpful people close and those who don’t play that role anymore at bay.
Your career narrative, network & knowledge are critical to how you show up in the world. I’ve seen this more and more over the past year and a half which is why I’m launching my latest course Career Capital . I’m hand selecting a small group for this live 5 week course to help you show up online in a way that showcases who you really are. Next week I’m sharing a small portion of the course with you for free. Hope to see you there!
